Dance Reach Mission Statement:

To provide students with access to high quality and culturally diverse dance forms. To teach students about the process of creating movement from the smallest of gestures to the biggest of leaps. Students will be helped to discover the art of choreography by learning from and working with choreographers on the cutting edge. They will also explore the impact that music, costumes and lighting have on dance and on it’s audience.

The creative team behind The Elan Awards consists of

Geoffrey Doig-Marx

(Creator/Co-Executive Producer/Artistic Director)

Bruce Robert Harris

(Co-Executive Producer)

Kathleen McAree

(Master Class Series Director)

Tamara Wayand

(Dance Reach Director Director)

The team feels a deep sense of responsibility to acknowledge the previous generations of choreographers who have paved dance history by inspiring, educating and changing the way students and audiences perceive dance.

By presenting the award as part of a dance festival, the team is bridging the gap between generations and paying homage in the best way they can: dance itself, depicting how each choreographer has used their knowledge and reinterpreted it.

From the Celtic tradition, the word “Elan” translates as “flight”.
